Okay, I know what you’re thinking… Christmas topsites, really? How 2001! But seriously, I love topsites because they reflect what real surfers like in their topic areas, in our case, Christmas. And topsites are perfect for niche website owners to participate in, considering that they are free to join, have a targeted audience and are a fun way to drive more traffic to your Christmas website.
Of course there are reasons to hate topsites too. They are nothing more than scripted sites that track visitors to certain websites – You see, when a website joins a topsite they put a voting button back to the topsite on their website. (Still with me? Hang in there) When someone clicks on the voting button they, in essence, are voting for that site. The more ‘votes’ a site gets, the higher up on the list a site will go. Hence, topsites – a group of related sites listed in order of popularity.
There are several problems with most topsites: cheaters, overrun with ads, sites that aren’t on topic, and topsites that are run completely on autopilot. That being said, let me tell you that all topsites are not created equal! There are great Christmas topsites out there and I’ll share a couple of my favorites.
First off, there’s Christmas Top 50. It’s a super cute Christmas topsite established in 2010, and is managed on a monthly basis by real life people! It still has a lot of room to grow and that’s a good thing. I’ll tell you a secret – joining a newer topsite with less members actually gives you a better chance at ranking higher in the list and then staying there.
Another favorite is ChristmasJunkie.com. It’s one of the oldest and largest Christmas topsites online today and is actually managed on a day to day basis, all year round – by yours truly! Cheaters are eliminated, the site reviews are moderated for spam, and old sites and broken links are purged regularly. Each and every site listed on Christmas Junkie is a bona fide Christmas site. Guaranteed!
So, when you’re ready to join all you need is a 468X60 banner. If you don’t have one, hit me up in the comments, I’ll make you one for free!
